Salman Anees Soz
Development Expert, Author, Commentator

Salman Anees Soz is an economic development expert, author, and commentator. He is a former World Bank officer with experience across a range of economic development issues in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, Middle East and North Africa, Sub Saharan Africa, and South Asia. Beyond regional and country-level strategic issues, Salman Soz’s World Bank experience includes working on issues related to climate change, disaster risk management, urban development, monitoring and evaluation and partnerships. He is a recipient of the World Bank President’s Award for Excellence as well as several other awards of recognition. He consults for international financial institutions and has previously worked on strategic issues for DoubleClick, a New York-based technology company. His professional interests include emerging market economics, political economy, and South Asian politics. Salman Soz is the author of The Great Disappointment - How Narendra Modi Squandered a Unique Opportunity to Transform the Indian Economy, which was published by Penguin in March 2019.His commentary on politics and economics appears regularly in major Indian and international publications such as The Indian Express, The Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Hindu, Business Standard, Mint, Financial Times, Nikkei Asian Review and many others. Salman Soz appears frequently on television to discuss politics and economics. He also speaks on politics, economics, and international affairs at universities, think tanks, and conferences both in India and abroad. He is a member of the Indian National Congress and Vice Chairman of the All India Professionals' Congress. Hailing from Kashmir, he is a passionate advocate of a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue. Salman Soz holds a Master's degree in Business Administration from Yale University (New Haven) and a Master's degree in Economics Northeastern University (Boston). He received a BA (Hons.) in Economics from St. Stephen's College (Delhi), where he was the elected President of the Students' Union Society.
